Several volunteers are required to assist the annual bird count carried out by the Ness District Salmon Fishery Board. Those who wish to help should contact president Alex Elliott. Contact details are listed in club membership cards.

The fishery board is able to control fish eating birds such as mergansers and goosanders, working to specific terms of annual licences based on numbers of the birds in the river system.
